One, just linnies

How many Linnie breeder pairs do you have?

One pair

The turquoise female, Teeka is a pet, while the mauve/slate male, Slater is not.

How long have you been breeding lineolated parakeets, specifically?

Approximately 2 years

How many times a year do your breeding pairs have clutches?

2 times depending on time of year

Do you hand-feed and hand-raise your babies?

Yes. Because Teeka is so wonderful, I am allowed to take the baby’s out and inspect them daily. I also band them at 10-11 days old, then start to hand feed. They are handled from 2 days old and hand-raised. I spend lots and lots of time with them each and everyday. Touching is a big must eg: wings, legs, stroking heads, back and under their wings. I also make a journal on the forum for each clutch, so don’t hesitate to check out my journals to see lots of pictures, and see a first hand look at my hand-raising practices.

Will you ship out of state/province?

Possibly

Cost of birds:

$225.00 DNA tested or $200.00 if not tested

Mutations/Colors you can breed:

Cobalt

Any other info you would like to include:

These hand fed/raised babies are friendly and usually doing wolf whistling and saying “Hi” by the time they go to their new homes. They come with a DNA certificate if DNA tested. All are sent home with a book of information on them and a sample of food they are raised on. Also am now including a video of them from birth until the day they leave. Many have been sold to members on the linnie group and all have good comments about my babies.

One Response to “Breeder Interview: Gail Johnston”

  1. Great interview Gail. I met some of your babies at Ineke’s place. One of them bit me btw.. *giggle. Guess he/she was frightened. They are beautiful babies and funny little monkeys, trying to escape going back into the cage.
