Egg food is high in protein and calcium and is good to give birds during breeding season (if they are breeder birds) or during a difficult molt, or if you girl bird has decided to lay eggs.

You can make your own. Scrambled up some eggs (dont add any butter, or salt and dont use a teflon pan), and add the crushed egg shell, some scraped cuttlebone, oatgroats, oatmeal, whole wheat bread crumbs and some vitamin drops or vitamin powder. You can even add some minced veggies if you'd like

Thanks for the link and info Nancy and Shandi! How often should I feed it to Ferb, considering he is not going to be bred, I just would like the benefit of easing his molt when it happens.

Well I gave it to mine 2-3 time a week. Then I went thru 2 batches and never had a bad molt. I stopped giving it and you can see how bad Parsley looks. I don't know if it was the egg food that made the difference but I am putting her back on it.

Egg food is easy to make, I've been making my own at home for my tiel, she has low blood-protein levels so needs a good bit of extra stuff. I usually cook my eggs in the microwave in a ceramic bowl to avoid any problems with any of our pans.

My linnie Buster is almost 4months old now and I am noticing he is loosing some feathers mostly downy ones. He also got a new single yellow feather on his head which is really cute cuz he is a green linnie. Is there anything special I should do while he molts and how many times a year do linnies molt? Love this forum!

Awwww, poor Parsley!! He does look cute as ever though.

Just wanted to mention about the eggfood-- great idea for molts, but DON'T use it if you feed Harrison's High Potency by any chance. It's okay to add to the Adult Lifetime, but the High Potency has extra protein and fat already added in (it's meant to serve as a breeding food as well) so the extra eggfood could be an overload of protein and fat.

If on any other diet with normal protein/fat levels, eggfood is verrrry helpful during molts, I use it as well. And frequent bathing too

Is it okay to use Kaytee Molting & Conditioning? I have used this before with a budgie, lovebird and cockateil. It's for stress during molting, breeding and rearing young. It recommends to use it with Kaytee's Exact, Fiesta or Fort-Diet. I am using Roudybush that Rory recommends and don't want to mess up a balanced food schedule.

Does anyone else use it or recommend it?

Thanks,

Judy

Personally, I wouldn't-- it's loaded with bad preservatives and sugar. If you've got a good feeding schedule going on, no need to mess with it
